If you have been into NoCo Fitness lately, you have probably noticed that we just linked up with Redcon 1 to get a whole new line of supplements. It’s all great stuff, and I encourage you to try it if you determine that you need to throw some supplements into the mix. However, with all of these new supplements, one question I have been asked is by my clients on numerous occasions is: “Do I need to take supplements?” The truth is, most people don’t NEED supplements, but they are a great option for a number of different circumstances.
First of all, don’t forget what the word supplement means. It means they can be used to supplement diet and exercise. I would not encourage anybody to rely solely on supplements to get their nutrition in. I encourage eating real food as much as possible, because a lot of times supplements just don’t have all the good macronutrients that you would get by eating real food. However, if you notice no matter how much you try you just can’t seem to get all of your protein in, then it would be a good time to supplement with some protein powder. Or if you know right after your workout you can’t stomach a full meal, that’s a good time to think about some protein powder as well. It doesn’t stop at protein powder though! If notice you’ve been having a hard time with finding energy to get through your workout, you could try a pre workout. Or if you know you’re going to have a busy day at work and probably won’t have time to get lunch in, supplement with a meal replacement shake.
The main point here is, before you go crazy with the supplements take a step back and ask yourself “Do I really need this?” If the answer is yes, then by all means go for it. Supplements can be extremely helpful in accomplishing your goals, and if you have any questions feel free to stop by NoCo Fitness and we will lead you in the right direction!
