Pushing Beyond Self Doubt in the Gym

We have all been there at some point in our lives, whether it is in the gym or in other aspects of our life. It overcomes us. It beats us down, and it is a hard cycle to break. So, the question begs, how do we get past self-doubt? How do we recognize it, get ahead of it, and turn back to a positive mindset? It all starts with you, and your mindset. Here are a few tips to make sure that the moment you walk in the door of the gym, you are ready to crush your workout and go after your goals!

Establish the mindset.

Before even walking into the gym, you should make it a point to get your mindset right. Crank the music, get amped up, and tell yourself that you are going to walk into the gym, and you aren’t going to stop until you have put everything you’ve got into that workout. The only way to grow and adapt in the gym is to push your body to its’ limits.

Set realistic goals.

Often times, people walk into the gym with goals that are either too big for the time frame they want to complete them, or they just aren’t ready to go to the level they will need in order to hit that certain goal. The best way to set yourself up for success is to pick goals that are realistic. Set small goals on the way to the bigger goal. I will never tell you that your goal is impossible, but rather that it is going to take time, and that we can hit some awesome goals on our way there!

Keep thing interesting.

If your workouts, trainer, or gym bores you, you’re not going to last long. Do what you need to do to keep things interesting for yourself! Fitness should be fun and exciting! That’s what keeps us coming back!

Put down the social media.

Sometimes, we need a break from social media! Keep an eye out for the blog coming out in a month where I will dive more into this topic. The main point is, we tend to compare ourselves to everyone else, especially those we follow on social media. We want to look like them, drive cars like them, vacation like them, and our lives just don’t seem as interesting. Put the phone down, unplug from social media, and realize that those people have bad days just like you, probably would like to have something that you have, and that their social media is just a highlight reel of their lives.

You can do anything you set your mind to.

Again, set goals. You can do anything if you truly want in, but it all starts between the ears. Get your mind right, and walk into that gym and own it!

The mindset is probably the most important step before you walk into a gym. The pre workout isn’t going to do it. Nobody else is going to do it for you. A trainer can help you to create it, but a positive mindset all starts with you and your ability to convince yourself that you can do it! This applies to everything in life, not just the gym!
