Core training is the Key

One of the most forgotten muscle groups in traditional training is the core. These muscles are very important and have a number of functions for our body. Training these muscles to be stronger and acquire more endurance can be beneficial to us more ways than we may realize. Here are a few reasons why every person should consistently add core into their exercise program.

First off, strengthening these muscles can provide stability to the trunk of your body. That stability helps facilitate proper spine alignment and position both moving and stationary. It also helps to have good posture and balance while moving. An article from the Harvard Medical School on the benefits of core training states,

Low back pain — a debilitating, sometimes excruciating problem affecting four out of five Americans at some point in their lives — may be prevented by exercises that promote well-balanced, resilient core muscles.

Having pain in the low back area is obviously extremely common, but  is also extremely easy to prevent. Working on exercising the muscles in this area will stabilize and support your body. By performing exercises like planks, side planks, and hip lifts, you can target these areas.

In addition to reducing back pain, working to strengthen your core will help you in everyday movement to more easily pick things up, stand up, twist, and move easier. Furthermore, having a strong core will carry over and benefit all other exercises that you do. If you want to squat more, then having strong stable muscles will be essential to handling an increased load on your back. The same goes for other exercises. This is the foundation for the rest of our body. If the core is unstable then the movement of our limbs will be less stable as well. So, the lesson of the day is, adding core training into your workout. Besides, you might even think it’s fun!
