What happens when the scale gets stuck?
We have all been there. Is it time to stop working out, just give up, and decide it’s just like last time and your body just doesn’t want to respond? A million thoughts will run through your mind, and before you know it, you have made up your mind. You just want to give up.
Unfortunately, I see way too much of this as a personal trainer. And, yes, this even happens to me. I have been there, trying to lose those couple pounds that just won’t come off, and in my own head, I think “what’s the point?” But, as a personal trainer, I have to give myself some advice, and it’s simple. There is an old saying that says it’s not about where you are at right now, but it is about the journey. And, with any goal related to fitness, that couldn’t be any more true.
You see, the human body goes through a lot each day, and everything you do is going to have an impact on other things you do, and that includes your goals in the gym, and weight on the scale is no different. If you drink more water than usual, it will have an effect. If you don’t get enough sleep, it will have an effect. If you do everything the exact same as you did the week before, maybe the scale doesn’t budge at all. But, I insist, just keep going. Keep moving forward. Don’t quit.
When we look at weight loss with a client, I look at the course over a period of time. A month, a year, multiple years. It is foolish to worry about a single day’s weigh in. Life is never going to be the exact same every day, and we shouldn’t expect our daily weight or loss in weight to be the same each day either. But, if you can look back at the end of this year, and realize you are actually down 20 lbs. since New Years of last year, and you feel so much better, then that is something to be proud of.
So, to all of my clients now and even future clients, take a deep breath for me, and enjoy the journey to a healthier you! It takes time, but it is worth every second!
